Globalization & i18n
Globalization (g11n) and Internationalization (i18n) are foundational to our work. We aim to support the full diversity of languages and communication modalities.
Principles¶
- Locale-awareness: content, formatting, and semantics adapt per locale
- Directionality: robust RTL/LTR rendering and bidi safety
- Script diversity: full Unicode coverage, font fallback, and graceful degradation
- Non-scripted languages: inclusive models for sign, whistled, and tactile languages
- Accessibility: WCAG-compliant content and semantic structure
Directionality Demo¶
The site ships an RTL stylesheet that activates automatically for RTL locales. Try switching the language to Arabic in the language selector to see mirrored navigation.
Data and Standards¶
- Unicode, CLDR, ICU
- Language tags (BCP 47) and registry alignment
- Locale-sensitive formats for dates, numbers, and lists
Non‑Scripted Languages¶
We include research tracks and datasets for:
- Sign languages (video, motion capture, gloss annotations)
- Whistled languages (audio corpora)
- Tactile languages and AAC systems
See the Projects section for datasets and tools.
